Our History |

Havard Printing Company is located in Horn Lake, Mississippi in the Northwest corner of the state. We are family owned and operated Printing Business. We do both letterpress and offset printing along with a wide range of other services.
Havard Printing Company was founded in the Mobile, Alabama area in 1959 by Charles Havard as a family business. Charles Havard grew up in the Whistler Community north of Mobile and studied printing while still in High School. After graduation from Murphy High School in 1949, he worked for ACME Printing Company in downtown Mobile. With the outbreak of the Korean War, Charles decided to join the U.S. Navy and see the world. While in the Navy, he worked as a printer onboard the U.S.S. Bremerton, a heavy cruiser. He printed many different kinds of jobs including simple jobs as well as jobs that were used by the Admiral. After serving for four years in the Navy, he returned to the States and settled down with his wife the former Nellie Sue Criswell whom he had married while still in the Navy. He worked for various printing shops in Pensacola, Florida and in Mobile, but his desire had long been to own his own business. So in 1959, he opened Havard Printing in the city of Prichard, Alabama and remained there until about 1975.
In the early 1970's Charles Havard saw many of his customers begin to move out from the downtown Prichard area and so he relocated to the Tillman's Corner area of southwest Mobile County to be more centrally located. Over the years, Havard Printing has printed for customers all over the Southeastern United States as well as the Local Mobile Area. Havard Printing has always been a family business. In the early days, Charles and Nell worked side by side in the Print Shop as a husband/wife team. Over the years, as children were born they were taught hard work and learned various skills. Havard Printing provided for seven children and saw each one of them work in the business at different times.
Steve Havard the oldest son of Mr. Havard worked with his dad in the printshop as a young boy and on into his adult life. In 1989, Steve moved to North Mississippi and in 1995 opened Havard Printing Company in what was then the unincorporated area of Walls, Mississippi. The two separate operations worked together on various jobs as a father/son team until 2002, when Mr. Charles Havard decided to close the Mobile Operation.
From early on, Charles Havard based his business on "the baker's dozen principle", of giving a man more than he expects. This principle as well as the lessons of hard work and diligence continue on through Havard Printing Company in Horn Lake, Mississippi today. |
